ٱلْحَمْدُ

All Praise

al-ḥamdu

لِلَّهِ

(is) for Allah

lillahi

ٱلَّذِىٓ

the One Who

alladhī

أَنزَلَ

(has) revealed

anzala

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

عَبْدِهِ

His slave

ʿabdihi

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

وَلَمْ

and not

walam

يَجْعَل

(has) made

yajʿal

لَّهُۥ

in it

lahu

عِوَجَاۜ

any crookedness

ʿiwajā

١

¡Alabado sea Dios! Quien ha revelado a Su siervo el Libro en el que no hay contradicciones ni defectos,

and give glad tidings

those who

يَعْمَلُونَ

yaʿmalūna

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

أَنَّ

that

anna

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

أَجْرًا

(is) a good reward

ajran

حَسَنًۭا

(is) a good reward

ḥasanan

٢

un Libro justo para advertir [a los que rechazan el Mensaje] de Su castigo severo, y para albriciar a los creyentes que obran rectamente que recibirán una hermosa recompensa

(They will) abide

También para advertir a quienes dicen que Dios ha engendrado un hijo:

إِلَّا

كَذِبًۭا

No tienen conocimiento sobre eso ni lo tenían sus antepasados. ¡Qué graves palabras salen de sus bocas! No dicen sino mentiras.

Then perhaps you would (be)

their footsteps

إِن

لَّمْ

يُؤْمِنُوا۟

they believe

بِهَـٰذَا

in this

ٱلْحَدِيثِ

أَسَفًا

(in) grief

أَحْسَنُ

عَمَلًۭا

(in) deed

He hecho de cuanto hay en la Tierra un adorno para probar quién obra mejor,

Our Signs

عَجَبًا

a wonder

¿Acaso consideras [¡Oh, Muhámmad!] que la historia de los jóvenes de la caverna y [su devoción por] la escritura fue uno de Mis milagros más sorprendentes?

Mercy

وَهَيِّئْ

and facilitate

لَنَا

for us

lanā

مِنْ

[from]

min

أَمْرِنَا

our affair

amrinā

رَشَدًۭا

(in the) right way

rashadan

١٠

Recuerda cuando los jóvenes se refugiaron en la caverna y dijeron: “¡Señor nuestro! Acógenos en Tu misericordia y concédenos que nuestra situación se solucione correctamente”.

فَضَرَبْنَا

So We cast

their ears

ٱلْكَهْفِ

عَدَدًۭا

a number

Entonces hice que durmieran en la caverna por muchos años.

بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ

We raised them up

لِنَعْلَمَ

that We make evident

أَىُّ

which

ٱلْحِزْبَيْنِ

أَحْصَىٰ

best calculated

aḥṣā

لِمَا

for what

limā

لَبِثُوٓا۟

(they had) remained

labithū

أَمَدًۭا

(in) time

amadan

١٢

Luego hice que despertaran para distinguir cuál de los dos grupos [creyentes e incrédulos] calculaba mejor el tiempo que habían permanecido allí.

نَّحْنُ

We

عَلَيْكَ

to you

ʿalayka

نَبَأَهُم

their story

naba-ahum

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

in truth

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they (were)

innahum

فِتْيَةٌ

youths

fit'yatun

ءَامَنُوا۟

who believed

āmanū

بِرَبِّهِمْ

in their Lord

birabbihim

وَزِدْنَـٰهُمْ

and We increased them

wazid'nāhum

هُدًۭى

(in) guidance

hudan

١٣

Te relato su verdadera historia: eran jóvenes que creían en su Señor y les aumenté su guía,

وَرَبَطْنَا

And We made firm

warabaṭnā

عَلَىٰ

[on]

ʿalā

قُلُوبِهِمْ

their hearts

qulūbihim

إِذْ

when

قَامُوا۟

they stood up

فَقَالُوا۟

and said

faqālū

رَبُّنَا

Our Lord

rabbunā

رَبُّ

(is) the Lord

rabbu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

لَن

Never

lan

نَّدْعُوَا۟

we will invoke

nadʿuwā

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦٓ

besides Him

dūnihi

إِلَـٰهًۭا ۖ

any god

ilāhan

لَّقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

قُلْنَآ

we would have said

qul'nā

إِذًۭا

then

idhan

شَطَطًا

an enormity

shaṭaṭan

١٤

fortalecí sus corazones cuando se reunieron [antes de dejar sus hogares y su gente] y dijeron: “Nuestro Señor es el Señor de los cielos y de la Tierra. No invocaremos nada fuera de Él, si lo hiciéramos estaríamos cometiendo una desviación.

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

These

hāulāi

قَوْمُنَا

our people

qawmunā

ٱتَّخَذُوا۟

have taken

ittakhadhū

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦٓ

besides Him

dūnihi

ءَالِهَةًۭ ۖ

gods

ālihatan

لَّوْلَا

Why not

lawlā

يَأْتُونَ

they come

yatūna

عَلَيْهِم

to them

ʿalayhim

بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۭ

with an authority

bisul'ṭānin

بَيِّنٍۢ ۖ

clear

bayyinin

فَمَنْ

And who

faman

أَظْلَمُ

(is) more wrong

aẓlamu

مِمَّنِ

than (one) who

mimmani

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

invents

if'tarā

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

كَذِبًۭا

a lie

kadhiban

١٥

Nuestro pueblo adora fuera de Él falsas deidades. ¿Por qué no presentan un fundamento válido para hacerlo? ¿Acaso hay alguien más injusto que quien inventa una mentira y se la atribuye a Dios?”

وَإِذِ

And when

wa-idhi

ٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ

you withdraw from them

iʿ'tazaltumūhum

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يَعْبُدُونَ

they worship

yaʿbudūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

فَأْوُۥٓا۟

then retreat

fawū

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْكَهْفِ

the cave

l-kahfi

يَنشُرْ

Will spread

yanshur

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

رَبُّكُم

your Lord

rabbukum

مِّن

of

min

رَّحْمَتِهِۦ

His Mercy

raḥmatihi

وَيُهَيِّئْ

and will facilitate

wayuhayyi

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنْ

[from]

min

أَمْرِكُم

your affair

amrikum

مِّرْفَقًۭا

(in) ease

mir'faqan

١٦

[Dijo uno de ellos:] “Si os apartáis de ellos y renegáis de cuanto adoráis en vez de Dios, refugiaros en la caverna, que vuestro Señor os cubrirá con Su misericordia y os facilitará una salida a vuestra situación”.

۞ وَتَرَى

And you (might) have seen

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

إِذَا

طَلَعَت

it rose

ṭalaʿat

تَّزَٰوَرُ

inclining away

عَن

from

ʿan

كَهْفِهِمْ

their cave

kahfihim

ذَاتَ

to

dhāta

ٱلْيَمِينِ

the right

l-yamīni

وَإِذَا

and when

wa-idhā

غَرَبَت

it set

gharabat

تَّقْرِضُهُمْ

passing away from them

taqriḍuhum

ذَاتَ

to

dhāta

ٱلشِّمَالِ

the left

l-shimāli

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

فِى

(lay) in

fī

فَجْوَةٍۢ

the open space

fajwatin

مِّنْهُ ۚ

thereof

min'hu

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

مِنْ

(was) from

min

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ ۗ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

مَن

Whoever

man

يَهْدِ

Allah guides

yahdi

ٱللَّهُ

Allah guides

l-lahu

فَهُوَ

and he

fahuwa

ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖ

(is) the guided one

l-muh'tadi

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

يُضْلِلْ

He lets go astray

yuḍ'lil

فَلَن

then never

falan

تَجِدَ

you will find

tajida

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

وَلِيًّۭا

a protector

waliyyan

مُّرْشِدًۭا

a guide

mur'shidan

١٧

Se podía observar cómo el Sol naciente se alejaba de la caverna por la derecha dejándoles al ocultarse por la izquierda, mientras ellos permanecían en un espacio de la misma. Este es uno de los milagros de Dios. Aquel a quien Dios guíe estará bien encaminado, pero aquel a quien le deje en el extravío no podrá encontrar protector que le guíe.

وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ

And you (would) think them

wataḥsabuhum

أَيْقَاظًۭا

awake

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

رُقُودٌۭ ۚ

(were) asleep

ruqūdun

وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ

And We turned them

wanuqallibuhum

ذَاتَ

to

dhāta

ٱلْيَمِينِ

the right

l-yamīni

وَذَاتَ

and to

wadhāta

ٱلشِّمَالِ ۖ

the left

l-shimāli

وَكَلْبُهُم

while their dog

wakalbuhum

بَـٰسِطٌۭ

stretched

bāsiṭun

ذِرَاعَيْهِ

his two forelegs

dhirāʿayhi

بِٱلْوَصِيدِ ۚ

at the entrance

bil-waṣīdi

لَوِ

If

lawi

ٱطَّلَعْتَ

you had looked

iṭṭalaʿta

عَلَيْهِمْ

at them

ʿalayhim

لَوَلَّيْتَ

you (would) have surely turned back

lawallayta

مِنْهُمْ

from them

min'hum

فِرَارًۭا

(in) flight

firāran

وَلَمُلِئْتَ

and surely you would have been filled

walamuli'ta

مِنْهُمْ

by them

min'hum

رُعْبًۭا

(with) terror

ruʿ'ban

١٨

Habrías creído que estaban despiertos, pero estaban dormidos. Les giraba hacia la derecha y hacia la izquierda, y su perro estaba con las patas delanteras extendidas en la entrada. Si les hubieras visto, habrías huido aterrorizado.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And similarly

wakadhālika

بَعَثْنَـٰهُمْ

We raised them

baʿathnāhum

لِيَتَسَآءَلُوا۟

that they might question

liyatasāalū

بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ

among them

baynahum

قَالَ

Said

qāla

قَآئِلٌۭ

a speaker

qāilun

مِّنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

كَمْ

How long

kam

لَبِثْتُمْ ۖ

have you remained

labith'tum

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

لَبِثْنَا

We have remained

labith'nā

يَوْمًا

a day

yawman

أَوْ

or

aw

بَعْضَ

a part

baʿḍa

يَوْمٍۢ ۚ

(of) a day

yawmin

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

رَبُّكُمْ

Your Lord

rabbukum

أَعْلَمُ

knows best

aʿlamu

بِمَا

how long

bimā

لَبِثْتُمْ

you have remained

labith'tum

فَٱبْعَثُوٓا۟

So send

fa-ib'ʿathū

أَحَدَكُم

one of you

aḥadakum

بِوَرِقِكُمْ

with this silver coin of yours

biwariqikum

هَـٰذِهِۦٓ

with this silver coin of yours

hādhihi

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْمَدِينَةِ

the city

l-madīnati

فَلْيَنظُرْ

and let him see

falyanẓur

أَيُّهَآ

which is

ayyuhā

أَزْكَىٰ

the purest

azkā

طَعَامًۭا

food

ṭaʿāman

فَلْيَأْتِكُم

and let him bring to you

falyatikum

بِرِزْقٍۢ

provision

biriz'qin

مِّنْهُ

from it

min'hu

وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْ

and let him be cautious

walyatalaṭṭaf

وَلَا

And let not be aware

walā

يُشْعِرَنَّ

And let not be aware

yush'ʿiranna

بِكُمْ

about you

bikum

أَحَدًا

anyone

aḥadan

١٩

Entonces, les desperté para que se preguntaran unos a otros. Uno de ellos dijo: “¿Cuánto tiempo pensáis que hemos permanecido aquí?” Respondieron: “Hemos permanecido un día o parte de un día”. Dijeron: “Nuestro Señor sabe mejor cuánto tiempo hemos permanecido. Enviemos a uno de nosotros con nuestro dinero a la ciudad para que busque la mejor comida y nos aprovisione, que actúe con sutileza y que no llame la atención de nadie,

Indeed, [they]

يُعِيدُوكُمْ

فِى

to

fī

مِلَّتِهِمْ

their religion

millatihim

وَلَن

And never

walan

تُفْلِحُوٓا۟

will you succeed

tuf'liḥū

إِذًا

then

idhan

أَبَدًۭا

ever

abadan

٢٠

porque si se enteran de nuestra presencia nos apedrearán o nos obligarán a regresar a su religión, y si eso sucede jamás estaremos entre los que alcancen el triunfo [en el más allá]”.

And similarly

We made known

لِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟

that they might know

وَعْدَ

(the) Promise

waʿda

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

حَقٌّۭ

(is) true

ḥaqqun

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱلسَّاعَةَ

(about) the Hour

l-sāʿata

لَا

(there is) no

lā

رَيْبَ

doubt

rayba

فِيهَآ

in it

fīhā

إِذْ

When

idh

يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ

they disputed

yatanāzaʿūna

بَيْنَهُمْ

among themselves

baynahum

أَمْرَهُمْ ۖ

about their affair

amrahum

فَقَالُوا۟

and they said

faqālū

ٱبْنُوا۟

Construct

ib'nū

عَلَيْهِم

over them

ʿalayhim

بُنْيَـٰنًۭا ۖ

a structure

bun'yānan

رَّبُّهُمْ

Their Lord

rabbuhum

أَعْلَمُ

knows best

aʿlamu

بِهِمْ ۚ

about them

bihim

قَالَ

Said

qāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

غَلَبُوا۟

prevailed

ghalabū

عَلَىٰٓ

in

ʿalā

أَمْرِهِمْ

their matter

amrihim

لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ

Surely we will take

lanattakhidhanna

عَلَيْهِم

over them

ʿalayhim

مَّسْجِدًۭا

a place of worship

masjidan

٢١

Pero hice que les descubrieran para que supieran que la promesa de Dios es verdadera, y que la Hora del Juicio es indubitable [y luego les hice morir]. Fue entonces cuando los habitantes del pueblo discutieron acerca de ellos. Algunos dijeron: “Construid una pared que bloquee la entrada de la cueva, pues solo Dios sabe la verdad sobre ellos”. Pero aquellos cuya opinión prevaleció dijeron: “Construyamos sobre ellos un oratorio”.

سَيَقُولُونَ

They say

sayaqūlūna

ثَلَـٰثَةٌۭ

(they were) three

thalāthatun

رَّابِعُهُمْ

the forth of them

rābiʿuhum

كَلْبُهُمْ

their dog

kalbuhum

وَيَقُولُونَ

and they say

wayaqūlūna

خَمْسَةٌۭ

(they were) five

khamsatun

سَادِسُهُمْ

the sixth of them

sādisuhum

كَلْبُهُمْ

their dog

kalbuhum

رَجْمًۢا

guessing

rajman

بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ

about the unseen

bil-ghaybi

وَيَقُولُونَ

and they say

wayaqūlūna

سَبْعَةٌۭ

(they were) seven

sabʿatun

وَثَامِنُهُمْ

and the eight of them

wathāminuhum

كَلْبُهُمْ ۚ

their dog

kalbuhum

قُل

Say

qul

رَّبِّىٓ

My Lord

rabbī

أَعْلَمُ

knows best

aʿlamu

بِعِدَّتِهِم

their number

biʿiddatihim

مَّا

None

mā

يَعْلَمُهُمْ

knows them

yaʿlamuhum

إِلَّا

except

illā

قَلِيلٌۭ ۗ

a few

qalīlun

فَلَا

So (do) not

falā

تُمَارِ

argue

tumāri

فِيهِمْ

about them

fīhim

إِلَّا

except

illā

مِرَآءًۭ

(with) an argument

mirāan

ظَـٰهِرًۭا

obvious

ẓāhiran

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَسْتَفْتِ

inquire

tastafti

فِيهِم

about them

fīhim

مِّنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

أَحَدًۭا

(from) anyone

aḥadan

٢٢

Algunos dirán que eran tres y cuatro con su perro. Otros que eran cinco y seis con su perro, conjeturando sobre lo que no tienen conocimiento. Y otros dirán que eran siete y ocho con su perro. Diles: “Mi Señor es Quien sabe exactamente cuántos eran y solo unos pocos lo saben. No profundicéis sobre ellos más de lo que os ha sido revelado. No consultéis [a quien no tenga conocimiento] sobre ellos”.

And (do) not

No digas acerca de algo: “¡Haré tal cosa!”

نَسِيتَ

you forget

وَقُلْ

and say

waqul

عَسَىٰٓ

Perhaps

ʿasā

أَن

[that]

an

يَهْدِيَنِ

will guide me

yahdiyani

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

لِأَقْرَبَ

to a nearer (way)

li-aqraba

مِنْ

than

min

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

رَشَدًۭا

right way

rashadan

٢٤

Salvo que agregues: “¡Si Dios quiere!” Pero si te olvidas de mencionar a tu Señor, invoca su nombre y reza diciendo: “Ruego a mi Señor que me guíe a la vía más recta”.

And they remained

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

أَبْصِرْ

How clearly He sees

abṣir

بِهِۦ

[of it]

bihi

وَأَسْمِعْ ۚ

And how clearly He hears

wa-asmiʿ

مَا

Not

mā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

مِن

any

min

وَلِىٍّۢ

protector

waliyyin

وَلَا

and not

walā

يُشْرِكُ

He shares

yush'riku

فِى

[in]

fī

حُكْمِهِۦٓ

His Commands

ḥuk'mihi

أَحَدًۭا

(with) anyone

aḥadan

٢٦

Diles: “Dios es Quien realmente sabe cuánto permanecieron. Él conoce los secretos de los cielos y de la Tierra; Él todo lo ve, todo lo oye. No tienen protector fuera de Él, y Él no asocia a nadie en Sus decisiones”.

And recite

لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ

His Words

likalimātihi

وَلَن

and never

walan

تَجِدَ

you will find

tajida

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

مُلْتَحَدًۭا

a refuge

mul'taḥadan

٢٧

Recita lo que se te ha revelado del Libro de tu Señor. No hay quien pueda

And be patient

نَفْسَكَ

yourself

مَعَ

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

rabbahum

بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ

in the morning

bil-ghadati

وَٱلْعَشِىِّ

and the evening

wal-ʿashiyi

يُرِيدُونَ

desiring

yurīdūna

وَجْهَهُۥ ۖ

His Face

wajhahu

وَلَا

And (let) not

walā

تَعْدُ

pass beyond

taʿdu

عَيْنَاكَ

your eyes

ʿaynāka

عَنْهُمْ

over them

ʿanhum

تُرِيدُ

desiring

turīdu

زِينَةَ

adornment

zīnata

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

(of) the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تُطِعْ

obey

tuṭiʿ

مَنْ

whom

man

أَغْفَلْنَا

We have made heedless

aghfalnā

قَلْبَهُۥ

his heart

qalbahu

عَن

of

ʿan

ذِكْرِنَا

Our remembrance

dhik'rinā

وَٱتَّبَعَ

and follows

wa-ittabaʿa

هَوَىٰهُ

his desires

hawāhu

وَكَانَ

and is

wakāna

أَمْرُهُۥ

his affair

amruhu

فُرُطًۭا

(in) excess

furuṭan

٢٨

Reúnete con quienes invocan a su Señor por la mañana y por la tarde anhelando Su rostro. No te apartes de ellos buscando el encanto de la vida mundanal. No obedezcas a aquel cuyo corazón se ha olvidado de recordarme, sigue sus pasiones y actúa con negligencia.

وَقُلِ

And say

ٱلْحَقُّ

The truth

l-ḥaqu

مِن

(is) from

min

رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ

your Lord

rabbikum

فَمَن

so whoever

faman

شَآءَ

wills

shāa

فَلْيُؤْمِن

let him believe

falyu'min

وَمَن

and whoever

waman

شَآءَ

wills

shāa

فَلْيَكْفُرْ ۚ

let him disbelieve

falyakfur

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

innā

أَعْتَدْنَا

have prepared

aʿtadnā

لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

for the wrongdoers

lilẓẓālimīna

نَارًا

a Fire

nāran

أَحَاطَ

will surround

aḥāṭa

بِهِمْ

them

bihim

سُرَادِقُهَا ۚ

its walls

surādiquhā

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَسْتَغِيثُوا۟

they call for relief

yastaghīthū

يُغَاثُوا۟

they will be relieved

yughāthū

بِمَآءٍۢ

with water

bimāin

كَٱلْمُهْلِ

like molten brass

kal-muh'li

يَشْوِى

(which) scalds

yashwī

ٱلْوُجُوهَ ۚ

the faces

l-wujūha

بِئْسَ

Wretched

bi'sa

ٱلشَّرَابُ

(is) the drink

l-sharābu

وَسَآءَتْ

and evil

wasāat

مُرْتَفَقًا

(is) the resting place

mur'tafaqan

٢٩

Diles: “La Verdad proviene de vuestro Señor. Quien quiera que crea y quien no quiera que no lo haga”. Pero sabed que tengo preparado para los que cometen injusticias un fuego que les rodeará. Cuando, sofocados, pidan de beber se les verterá un líquido como el metal fundido que les quemará el rostro. ¡Qué pésima bebida y qué horrible morada!

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and did

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

the good deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

إِنَّا

indeed, We

innā

لَا

will not let go waste

lā

نُضِيعُ

will not let go waste

nuḍīʿu

أَجْرَ

(the) reward

ajra

مَنْ

(of one) who

man

أَحْسَنَ

does good

aḥsana

عَمَلًا

deeds

ʿamalan

٣٠

En cambio, quienes crean y obren rectamente, sepan que recompensaré todas sus obras.

جَنَّـٰتُ

(are) Gardens

jannātu

عَدْنٍۢ

of Eden

ʿadnin

تَجْرِى

تَحْتِهِمُ

underneath them

taḥtihimu

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ

the rivers

l-anhāru

يُحَلَّوْنَ

They will be adorned

yuḥallawna

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

مِنْ

[of] (with)

min

أَسَاوِرَ

bracelets

asāwira

مِن

of

min

ذَهَبٍۢ

gold

dhahabin

وَيَلْبَسُونَ

and will wear

wayalbasūna

ثِيَابًا

garments

thiyāban

خُضْرًۭا

green

khuḍ'ran

مِّن

of

min

سُندُسٍۢ

fine silk

sundusin

وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍۢ

and heavy brocade

wa-is'tabraqin

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ

reclining

muttakiīna

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۚ

adorned couches

l-arāiki

نِعْمَ

Excellent

niʿ'ma

ٱلثَّوَابُ

(is) the reward

l-thawābu

وَحَسُنَتْ

and good

waḥasunat

مُرْتَفَقًۭا

(is) the resting place

mur'tafaqan

٣١

Esos alcanzarán los Jardines del Edén por donde corren ríos. Serán engalanados con brazaletes de oro, vestidos con prendas verdes de seda y brocado. Estarán recostados sobre sofás. ¡Qué placentera recompensa y qué hermoso lugar de descanso!

۞ وَٱضْرِبْ

And set forth

wa-iḍ'rib

لَهُم

to them

lahum

مَّثَلًۭا

the example

mathalan

رَّجُلَيْنِ

of two men:

rajulayni

جَعَلْنَا

We provided

jaʿalnā

لِأَحَدِهِمَا

for one of them

li-aḥadihimā

جَنَّتَيْنِ

two gardens

jannatayni

مِنْ

of

min

أَعْنَـٰبٍۢ

grapes

aʿnābin

وَحَفَفْنَـٰهُمَا

and We bordered them

waḥafafnāhumā

بِنَخْلٍۢ

with date-palms

binakhlin

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We placed

wajaʿalnā

بَيْنَهُمَا

between both of them

baynahumā

زَرْعًۭا

crops

zarʿan

٣٢

Exponles el ejemplo de dos hombres. Al incrédulo le concedí dos viñedos cercados con palmeras y en medio de ambos un sembrado.

شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ

وَفَجَّرْنَا

And We caused to gush forth

wafajjarnā

خِلَـٰلَهُمَا

within them

khilālahumā

نَهَرًۭا

a river

naharan

٣٣

Ambos viñedos dieron sus frutos sin ninguna pérdida, e hice brotar en medio de ellos un río.

وَكَانَ

And was

لَهُۥ

for him

ثَمَرٌۭ

fruit

فَقَالَ

so he said

لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ

to his companion

وَهُوَ

يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ

(was) talking with him

yuḥāwiruhu

أَنَا۠

I am

anā

أَكْثَرُ

greater

aktharu

مِنكَ

than you

minka

مَالًۭا

(in) wealth

mālan

وَأَعَزُّ

and stronger

wa-aʿazzu

نَفَرًۭا

(in) men

nafaran

٣٤

Su dueño, que poseía abundantes riquezas, hablando [arrogantemente] con el creyente le dijo: “Tengo más riqueza que tú y mi gente es más fuerte”.

وَدَخَلَ

And he entered

جَنَّتَهُۥ

his garden

jannatahu

وَهُوَ

while he

wahuwa

ظَالِمٌۭ

(was) unjust

ẓālimun

لِّنَفْسِهِۦ

to himself

قَالَ

He said

qāla

مَآ

Not

mā

أَظُنُّ

I think

aẓunnu

أَن

that

an

تَبِيدَ

will perish

tabīda

هَـٰذِهِۦٓ

this

hādhihi

أَبَدًۭا

ever

abadan

٣٥

Luego ingresó en su viñedo lleno de soberbia e incredulidad y exclamó: “No creo que este viñedo perezca jamás,

And not

wamā

أَظُنُّ

I think

aẓunnu

ٱلسَّاعَةَ

the Hour

l-sāʿata

قَآئِمَةًۭ

will occur

qāimatan

وَلَئِن

And if

wala-in

رُّدِدتُّ

I am brought back

rudidttu

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

لَأَجِدَنَّ

I will surely find

la-ajidanna

خَيْرًۭا

better

khayran

مِّنْهَا

than this

min'hā

مُنقَلَبًۭا

(as) a return

munqalaban

٣٦

tampoco creo que jamás llegue la Hora [del Día del Juicio]. Pero, si llego a ser resucitado, estoy seguro de que tendré un viñedo mejor que este”.

Do you disbelieve

بِٱلَّذِى

in One Who

bi-alladhī

خَلَقَكَ

created you

khalaqaka

مِن

from

min

تُرَابٍۢ

dust

turābin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

مِن

from

min

نُّطْفَةٍۢ

a minute quantity of semen

nuṭ'fatin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

سَوَّىٰكَ

fashioned you

sawwāka

رَجُلًۭا

(into) a man

rajulan

٣٧

El creyente con quien hablaba le preguntó [haciéndole reflexionar]: “¿No crees en Quien ha creado a tu padre de polvo, luego a toda su descendencia de un óvulo fecundado y te ha dado la forma de un ser humano con todas sus facultades?

لَّـٰكِنَّا۠

But as for me

ٱللَّهُ

(is) Allah

رَبِّى

my Lord

وَلَآ

أُشْرِكُ

بِرَبِّىٓ

with my Lord

أَحَدًۭا

anyone

En cuanto a mí, creo que Dios es mi Señor y no Le asocio copartícipe alguno [en la adoración].

And why (did you) not

جَنَّتَكَ

بِٱللَّهِ ۚ

أَنَا۠

أَقَلَّ

lesser

aqalla

مِنكَ

than you

minka

مَالًۭا

(in) wealth

mālan

وَوَلَدًۭا

and children

wawaladan

٣٩

Deberías haber dicho cuando ingresaste a tus viñedos: ‘Esto es lo que Dios ha querido, todo el poder proviene de Dios’. Ya ves que poseo menos riqueza e hijos que tú.

فَعَسَىٰ

It may be

faʿasā

رَبِّىٓ

that my Lord

rabbī

أَن

that my Lord

an

يُؤْتِيَنِ

will give me

yu'tiyani

خَيْرًۭا

better

khayran

مِّن

than

min

جَنَّتِكَ

your garden

jannatika

وَيُرْسِلَ

and will send

wayur'sila

عَلَيْهَا

upon it

ʿalayhā

حُسْبَانًۭا

a calamity

ḥus'bānan

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

فَتُصْبِحَ

then it will become

fatuṣ'biḥa

صَعِيدًۭا

ground

ṣaʿīdan

زَلَقًا

slippery

zalaqan

٤٠

Pero debes saber que mi Señor me concederá algo mejor que tus viñedos [en la otra vida] y es posible que envíe del cielo una tempestad que los aniquile,

Or

فَلَن

to find it

طَلَبًۭا

o que el agua del río que hay entre ellos sea absorbida por la tierra y no puedas alcanzarla”.

And were surrounded

بِثَمَرِهِۦ

his fruits

فَأَصْبَحَ

so he began

كَفَّيْهِ

his hands

kaffayhi

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَآ

what

mā

أَنفَقَ

he (had) spent

anfaqa

فِيهَا

on it

fīhā

وَهِىَ

while it (had)

wahiya

خَاوِيَةٌ

collapsed

khāwiyatun

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

عُرُوشِهَا

its trellises

ʿurūshihā

وَيَقُولُ

and he said

wayaqūlu

يَـٰلَيْتَنِى

Oh! I wish

yālaytanī

لَمْ

I had not associated

lam

أُشْرِكْ

I had not associated

ush'rik

بِرَبِّىٓ

with my Lord

birabbī

أَحَدًۭا

anyone

aḥadan

٤٢

Y en efecto, sus frutos fueron destruidos. [Él] se golpeaba las manos lamentándose por lo que había invertido en ellos, y ahora estaban allí devastados. Entonces dijo: “No debería haber igualado a otros junto a mi Señor”.

And not

No tuvo quien pudiera salvarlo del designio de Dios, ni siquiera pudo defenderse a sí mismo.

There

ٱلْوَلَـٰيَةُ

the protection

l-walāyatu

لِلَّهِ

(is) from Allah

lillahi

ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

the True

l-ḥaqi

هُوَ

خَيْرٌۭ

(is the) best

khayrun

ثَوَابًۭا

(to) reward

thawāban

وَخَيْرٌ

and (the) best

wakhayrun

عُقْبًۭا

(for) the final end

ʿuq'ban

Eso evidenció que el verdadero triunfo proviene de Dios, la verdadera divinidad. Él es Quien mejor recompensa, y las obras que se realicen para buscar Su complacencia serán las que tengan mejor final.

And present

مَّثَلَ

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

(of) the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

كَمَآءٍ

like water

kamāin

أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ

which We send down

anzalnāhu

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

فَٱخْتَلَطَ

then mingles

fa-ikh'talaṭa

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

نَبَاتُ

(the) vegetation

nabātu

ٱلْأَرْضِ

(of) the earth

l-arḍi

فَأَصْبَحَ

then becomes

fa-aṣbaḥa

هَشِيمًۭا

dry stalks

hashīman

تَذْرُوهُ

it (is) scattered

tadhrūhu

ٱلرِّيَـٰحُ ۗ

(by) the winds

l-riyāḥu

وَكَانَ

And Allah

wakāna

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah

l-lahu

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

مُّقْتَدِرًا

(is) All Able

muq'tadiran

٤٥

Exponles el ejemplo de la vida mundanal, y diles que es como el agua que envío del cielo, que riega la vegetación, pero luego esta se seca y los vientos la dispersan. Dios tiene poder sobre todas las cosas.

The wealth

l-dun'yā

وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ

But the enduring

wal-bāqiyātu

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ

good deeds

l-ṣāliḥātu

خَيْرٌ

(are) better

khayrun

عِندَ

near

ʿinda

رَبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

ثَوَابًۭا

(for) reward

thawāban

وَخَيْرٌ

and better

wakhayrun

أَمَلًۭا

(for) hope

amalan

٤٦

Los bienes materiales y los hijos son parte de los encantos de la vida mundanal, [que éstos no os hagan olvidaros de lo que Dios ha ordenado. Utilizad bien vuestras riquezas y educad correctamente a vuestros hijos], pues las obras que a Dios Le complacen son las que perduran y tienen gran recompensa.

And the Day

We will cause (to) move

ٱلْجِبَالَ

the mountains

وَتَرَى

and you will see

watarā

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

بَارِزَةًۭ

(as) a leveled plain

bārizatan

وَحَشَرْنَـٰهُمْ

and We will gather them

waḥasharnāhum

فَلَمْ

and not

falam

نُغَادِرْ

We will leave behind

nughādir

مِنْهُمْ

from them

min'hum

أَحَدًۭا

anyone

aḥadan

٤٧

[Recordad] el día que pulverice las montañas y la tierra quede allanada, os congregaré y nadie podrá ausentarse.

وَعُرِضُوا۟

And they will be presented

عَلَىٰ

رَبِّكَ

your Lord

جِئْتُمُونَا

you have come to Us

ji'tumūnā

كَمَا

as

kamā

خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ

We created you

khalaqnākum

أَوَّلَ

the first

awwala

مَرَّةٍۭ ۚ

time

marratin

بَلْ

Nay

bal

زَعَمْتُمْ

you claimed

zaʿamtum

أَلَّن

that not

allan

نَّجْعَلَ

We made

najʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مَّوْعِدًۭا

an appointment

mawʿidan

٤٨

Cuando comparezcan ante tu Señor en fila, se les dirá: “Os presentáis ante Mí como os creé al nacer. ¿Acaso pensabais que no os iba a juzgar?”

And (will) be placed

ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ

the Book

l-kitābu

فَتَرَى

and you will see

fatarā

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

the criminals

مُشْفِقِينَ

fearful

mush'fiqīna

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

فِيهِ

(is) in it

fīhi

وَيَقُولُونَ

and they will say

wayaqūlūna

يَـٰوَيْلَتَنَا

Oh, woe to us

yāwaylatanā

مَالِ

What (is) for

māli

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

[the] Book

l-kitābi

لَا

not

lā

يُغَادِرُ

leaves

yughādiru

صَغِيرَةًۭ

a small

ṣaghīratan

وَلَا

and not

walā

كَبِيرَةً

a great

kabīratan

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَحْصَىٰهَا ۚ

has enumerated it

aḥṣāhā

وَوَجَدُوا۟

And they will find

wawajadū

مَا

what

mā

عَمِلُوا۟

they did

ʿamilū

حَاضِرًۭا ۗ

presented

ḥāḍiran

وَلَا

And not

walā

يَظْلِمُ

deals unjustly

yaẓlimu

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

أَحَدًۭا

(with) anyone

aḥadan

٤٩

A cada uno se le expondrá el registro de sus obras, y verás a los pecadores que por temor a su contenido dirán: “¡Ay de nosotros! ¿Qué clase de registro es este, que no deja de mencionar nada, ni grande ni pequeño?” Encontrarán mencionado todo cuanto hayan cometido, pero tu Señor no oprimirá a nadie.

And when

قُلْنَا

We said

لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

to the Angels

lil'malāikati

ٱسْجُدُوا۟

Prostrate

us'judū

لِـَٔادَمَ

to Adam

liādama

فَسَجَدُوٓا۟

so they prostrated

fasajadū

إِلَّآ

except

illā

إِبْلِيسَ

Iblis

ib'līsa

كَانَ

(He) was

kāna

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْجِنِّ

the jinn

l-jini

فَفَسَقَ

and he rebelled

fafasaqa

عَنْ

against

ʿan

أَمْرِ

the Command

amri

رَبِّهِۦٓ ۗ

(of) his Lord

rabbihi

أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ

Will you then take him

afatattakhidhūnahu

وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ

and his offspring

wadhurriyyatahu

أَوْلِيَآءَ

(as) protectors

awliyāa

مِن

other than Me

min

دُونِى

other than Me

dūnī

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

لَكُمْ

(are) to you

lakum

عَدُوٌّۢ ۚ

enemies

ʿaduwwun

بِئْسَ

Wretched

bi'sa

لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

for the wrongdoers

lilẓẓālimīna

بَدَلًۭا

(is) the exchange

badalan

٥٠

[Recuerda] cuando dije a los ángeles: “Haced una reverencia ante Adán”. La hicieron, excepto Iblís, que era un yinn, y desobedeció la orden de su Señor. ¿Acaso le tomáis a él y a sus descendientes como protectores en vez de tomarme a Mí, a pesar de que son vuestros enemigos? ¡Qué pésimo sustituto eligen los que cometen la injusticia [de la incredulidad en Dios]!

أَشْهَدتُّهُمْ

I made them witness

ashhadttuhum

خَلْقَ

the creation

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَلَا

and not

walā

خَلْقَ

the creation

khalqa

أَنفُسِهِمْ

(of) themselves

anfusihim

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كُنتُ

I Am

kuntu

مُتَّخِذَ

the One to take

muttakhidha

ٱلْمُضِلِّينَ

the misleaders

l-muḍilīna

عَضُدًۭا

(as) helper(s)

ʿaḍudan

٥١

No les hice [a los ídolos ni al demonio] testigos de la creación de los cielos y de la Tierra, ni siquiera de su propia creación, puesto que no habría de tomar como auxiliadores a quienes desvían.

And the Day

He will say

نَادُوا۟

Call

شُرَكَآءِىَ

My partners

ٱلَّذِينَ

you claimed

zaʿamtum

فَدَعَوْهُمْ

then they will call them

fadaʿawhum

فَلَمْ

but not

falam

يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟

they will respond

yastajībū

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

وَجَعَلْنَا

And We will make

wajaʿalnā

بَيْنَهُم

between them

baynahum

مَّوْبِقًۭا

a barrier

mawbiqan

٥٢

El día que se les diga [a los idólatras]: “Invocad a aquellos que pretendíais que eran Mis socios”. Los invocarán, pero no obtendrán respuesta. Pondremos entre ellos un abismo que los separe.

And will see

the Fire

فَظَنُّوٓا۟

and they (will be) certain

مُّوَاقِعُوهَا

are to fall in it

muwāqiʿūhā

وَلَمْ

And not

walam

يَجِدُوا۟

they will find

yajidū

عَنْهَا

from it

ʿanhā

مَصْرِفًۭا

a way of escape

maṣrifan

٥٣

Los pecadores verán el Fuego y sabrán que caerán en él, pero no encontrarán escapatoria.

And certainly

We have explained

مِن

كُلِّ

every

مَثَلٍۢ ۚ

وَكَانَ

But is

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

the man

أَكْثَرَ

(in) most

akthara

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

جَدَلًۭا

quarrelsome

jadalan

He expuesto en el Corán todo tipo de ejemplos, pero el ser humano es un gran discutidor.

And nothing

مَنَعَ

prevents

manaʿa

ٱلنَّاسَ

men

أَن

that

an

يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟

they believe

has come to them

ٱلْهُدَىٰ

the guidance

l-hudā

وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟

and they ask forgiveness

wayastaghfirū

رَبَّهُمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbahum

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

تَأْتِيَهُمْ

comes to them

tatiyahum

سُنَّةُ

(the) way

sunnatu

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

أَوْ

or

aw

يَأْتِيَهُمُ

comes to them

yatiyahumu

ٱلْعَذَابُ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

قُبُلًۭا

before (them)

qubulan

٥٥

Nada impide a la gente creer o pedir a su Señor el perdón por sus pecados cuando les llega la guía, excepto [su reclamo desafiante de] que el castigo de los pueblos [perversos] de la antigüedad les sobrevenga [también] a ellos, o que les sobrevenga el castigo de inmediato.

نُرْسِلُ

We send

nur'silu

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

the Messengers

l-mur'salīna

إِلَّا

except

illā

مُبَشِّرِينَ

(as) bearers of glad tidings

mubashirīna

وَمُنذِرِينَ ۚ

and (as) warners

wamundhirīna

وَيُجَـٰدِلُ

And dispute

wayujādilu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ

with falsehood

bil-bāṭili

لِيُدْحِضُوا۟

to refute

liyud'ḥiḍū

بِهِ

thereby

bihi

ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟

And they take

wa-ittakhadhū

ءَايَـٰتِى

My Verses

āyātī

وَمَآ

and what

wamā

أُنذِرُوا۟

they are warned

undhirū

هُزُوًۭا

(in) ridicule

huzuwan

٥٦

Envié a los Mensajeros como albriciadores y advertidores. Los que se niegan a creer discuten con argumentos falsos para refutar la Verdad y se burlan de Mis versículos y advertencias.

وَمَنْ

And who

waman

أَظْلَمُ

(is) more wrong

aẓlamu

مِمَّن

than (he) who

mimman

ذُكِّرَ

is reminded

dhukkira

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

of the Verses

biāyāti

رَبِّهِۦ

(of) his Lord

rabbihi

فَأَعْرَضَ

but turns away

fa-aʿraḍa

عَنْهَا

from them

ʿanhā

وَنَسِىَ

and forgets

wanasiya

مَا

what

mā

قَدَّمَتْ

have sent forth

qaddamat

يَدَاهُ ۚ

his hands

yadāhu

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

جَعَلْنَا

[We] have placed

jaʿalnā

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

قُلُوبِهِمْ

their hearts

qulūbihim

أَكِنَّةً

coverings

akinnatan

أَن

lest

an

يَفْقَهُوهُ

they understand it

yafqahūhu

وَفِىٓ

and in

wafī

ءَاذَانِهِمْ

their ears

ādhānihim

وَقْرًۭا ۖ

(is) deafness

waqran

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَدْعُهُمْ

you call them

tadʿuhum

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْهُدَىٰ

the guidance

l-hudā

فَلَن

then never

falan

يَهْتَدُوٓا۟

they will be guided

yahtadū

إِذًا

then

idhan

أَبَدًۭا

ever

abadan

٥٧

¿Acaso hay alguien más injusto que quien habiéndosele expuesto los signos de su Señor, los niega y se olvida de lo que han hecho sus manos? He cubierto sus corazones y ensordecido sus oídos para que no lo entiendan [al Corán]. Aunque los invites a seguir la guía, si siguen así, no se encaminarán jamás.

وَرَبُّكَ

And your Lord

ٱلْغَفُورُ

(is) the Most Forgiving

Owner

ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۖ

(of) the Mercy

law

يُؤَاخِذُهُم

He were to seize them

yuākhidhuhum

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَسَبُوا۟

they have earned

kasabū

لَعَجَّلَ

surely, He (would) have hastened

laʿajjala

لَهُمُ

for them

lahumu

ٱلْعَذَابَ ۚ

the punishment

l-ʿadhāba

بَل

But

bal

لَّهُم

for them

lahum

مَّوْعِدٌۭ

(is) an appointment

mawʿidun

لَّن

never

lan

يَجِدُوا۟

they will find

yajidū

مِن

other than it

min

دُونِهِۦ

other than it

dūnihi

مَوْئِلًۭا

an escape

mawilan

٥٨

Tu Señor es el Perdonador, Misericordioso. Si les quisiera dar su merecido por lo que cometieron les adelantaría el castigo. Pero he prefijado para ellos un día del que no podrán escapar.

And these

ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ

[the] towns

أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ

We destroyed them

ahlaknāhum

لَمَّا

lammā

they wronged

ẓalamū

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We made

wajaʿalnā

لِمَهْلِكِهِم

for their destruction

limahlikihim

مَّوْعِدًۭا

an appointed time

A otras ciudades de la antigüedad las destruí cuando comenzaron a cometer injusticias. Decreté una fecha para su destrucción.

the junction

ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ

(of) the two seas

أَوْ

أَمْضِىَ

I continue

amḍiya

حُقُبًۭا

(for) a long period

ḥuquban

٦٠

[Recuerda] cuando Moisés dijo a su fiel servidor: “No desistiré hasta que llegue a la confluencia de los dos mares, aunque esto me lleve muchos años”.

But when

فَٱتَّخَذَ

and it took

سَبِيلَهُۥ

ٱلْبَحْرِ

the sea

سَرَبًۭا

slipping away

Pero cuando alcanzaron la confluencia se olvidaron del pescado, al que Dios resucitó y emprendió milagrosamente el camino hacia el mar.

لَقَدْ

Certainly

we have suffered

سَفَرِنَا

our journey

fatigue

٦٢

Y cuando cruzaron más allá [de la confluencia] dijo [Moisés] a su servidor: “Trae nuestra comida, que nos hemos agotado con este viaje”.

وَمَآ

أَنسَىٰنِيهُ

made me forget it

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

أَنْ

that

an

أَذْكُرَهُۥ ۚ

I mention it

adhkurahu

وَٱتَّخَذَ

And it took

wa-ittakhadha

سَبِيلَهُۥ

its way

sabīlahu

فِى

into

fī

ٱلْبَحْرِ

the sea

l-baḥri

عَجَبًۭا

amazingly

ʿajaban

٦٣

Dijo: “Cuando nos refugiamos junto a la roca, allí me olvidé del pescado. Solo el demonio pudo hacer que me olvidara de contarte que milagrosamente saltó y emprendió su regreso hacia el mar”.

He said

فَٱرْتَدَّا

عَلَىٰٓ

ʿalā

ءَاثَارِهِمَا

their footprints

قَصَصًۭا

retracing

qaṣaṣan

٦٤

Dijo [Moisés]: “Esa es la señal que buscábamos”, y regresaron sobre sus huellas.

فَوَجَدَا

Then they found

عَبْدًۭا

a servant

ʿabdan

مِّنْ

عِبَادِنَآ

Our servants

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ

رَحْمَةًۭ

mercy

raḥmatan

مِّنْ

عِندِنَا

Us

ʿindinā

وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ

and We had taught him

waʿallamnāhu

مِن

لَّدُنَّا

Us

ladunnā

عِلْمًۭا

a knowledge

ʿil'man

٦٥

Encontraron a uno de Mis siervos [Al-Jidr] a quien había agraciado con Mi misericordia y enseñado ciertos conocimientos [que Moisés no poseía].

Moisés le dijo: “¿Puedo seguirte para que me enseñes la guía que se te ha enseñado?”

Indeed, you

will be able

Respondió: “No tendrás paciencia conmigo.

خَرَقَهَا ۖ

he made a hole in it

أَخَرَقْتَهَا

Have you made a hole in it

لِتُغْرِقَ

to drown

أَهْلَهَا

its people

ahlahā

لَقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

جِئْتَ

you have done

ji'ta

شَيْـًٔا

a thing

shayan

إِمْرًۭا

grave

im'ran

Entonces partieron hasta que abordaron un pequeño barco [y cuando llegaron a la costa] le hizo un boquete. Dijo [Moisés]: “¿Has hecho un boquete para que se ahoguen quienes [estén viajando] a abordo? Has cometido algo grave”.

بِغَيْرِ

for other than

نَفْسٍۢ

a soul

nafsin

لَّقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

جِئْتَ

you have done

ji'ta

شَيْـًۭٔا

a thing

shayan

نُّكْرًۭا

evil

nuk'ran

٧٤

Entonces partieron hasta que se encontraron con un joven al que mató. Dijo [Moisés]: “¿Has matado a una persona inocente sin que él haya matado a nadie? Has hecho algo terrible”.

Dijo [Moisés]: “Si volviera a preguntarte acerca de algo después de esto, ya no me admitas como compañero [de viaje], te habría dado excusa suficiente”.

فَٱنطَلَقَا

So they set out

حَتَّىٰٓ

أَتَيَآ

they came

أَهْلَ

(to the) people

ٱسْتَطْعَمَآ

they asked for food

is'taṭʿamā

أَهْلَهَا

(from) its people

ahlahā

فَأَبَوْا۟

but they refused

fa-abaw

أَن

to

an

يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا

offer them hospitality

yuḍayyifūhumā

فَوَجَدَا

Then they found

fawajadā

فِيهَا

in it

fīhā

جِدَارًۭا

a wall

jidāran

يُرِيدُ

(that) want(ed)

yurīdu

أَن

to

an

يَنقَضَّ

collapse

yanqaḍḍa

فَأَقَامَهُۥ ۖ

so he set it straight

fa-aqāmahu

قَالَ

He said

qāla

لَوْ

If

law

شِئْتَ

you wished

shi'ta

لَتَّخَذْتَ

surely you (could) have taken

lattakhadhta

عَلَيْهِ

for it

ʿalayhi

أَجْرًۭا

a payment

ajran

٧٧

Partieron hasta que llegaron a un pueblo y pidieron a sus habitantes que los alimentaran, pero se negaron a darles hospitalidad. Luego encontraron en el pueblo un muro que estaba a punto de derrumbarse, y [Al-Jidr] lo reconstruyó. Le dijo [Moisés]: “Si hubieras querido, podrías haber pedido una paga por ello”.

Dijo: “Aquí nos separamos. Pero te informaré sobre la interpretación de aquello con lo que no tuviste paciencia.

ٱلْبَحْرِ

the sea

فَأَرَدتُّ

So I intended

fa-aradttu

أَنْ

أَعِيبَهَا

I cause defect (in) it

وَكَانَ

(as there) was

wakāna

وَرَآءَهُم

after them

warāahum

مَّلِكٌۭ

a king

malikun

يَأْخُذُ

who seized

yakhudhu

كُلَّ

every

kulla

سَفِينَةٍ

ship

safīnatin

غَصْبًۭا

(by) force

ghaṣban

٧٩

En cuanto al barco, pertenecía a unos pobres que trabajaban en el mar, y quise averiarlo porque detrás de ellos venía un rey que se apoderaba por la fuerza de todos los barcos [que estuvieran en perfectas condiciones].

وَأَمَّا

And as for

wa-ammā

ٱلْغُلَـٰمُ

the boy

l-ghulāmu

فَكَانَ

his parents were

أَبَوَاهُ

فَخَشِينَآ

and we feared

fakhashīnā

أَن

that

an

يُرْهِقَهُمَا

he would overburden them

طُغْيَـٰنًۭا

(by) transgression

ṭugh'yānan

وَكُفْرًۭا

and disbelief

wakuf'ran

٨٠

En cuanto al joven, sus padres eran creyentes y supe [por inspiración divina] que él les induciría al desvío y la incredulidad.

So we intended

أَن

يُبْدِلَهُمَا

would change for them

رَبُّهُمَا

than him

min'hu

زَكَوٰةًۭ

(in) purity

zakatan

وَأَقْرَبَ

and nearer

wa-aqraba

رُحْمًۭا

(in) affection

ruḥ'man

Quiso su Señor concederles en su lugar otro hijo más puro y bondadoso.

ٱلْمَدِينَةِ

وَكَانَ

تَحْتَهُۥ

underneath it

كَنزٌۭ

a treasure

لَّهُمَا

for them

lahumā

وَكَانَ

and was

wakāna

أَبُوهُمَا

their father

abūhumā

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous

ṣāliḥan

فَأَرَادَ

So intended

fa-arāda

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

أَن

that

an

يَبْلُغَآ

they reach

yablughā

أَشُدَّهُمَا

their maturity

ashuddahumā

وَيَسْتَخْرِجَا

and bring forth

wayastakhrijā

كَنزَهُمَا

their treasure

kanzahumā

رَحْمَةًۭ

(as) a mercy

raḥmatan

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ ۚ

your Lord

rabbika

وَمَا

And not

wamā

فَعَلْتُهُۥ

I did it

faʿaltuhu

عَنْ

on

ʿan

أَمْرِى ۚ

my (own) accord

amrī

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

تَأْوِيلُ

(is the) interpretation

tawīlu

مَا

(of) what

mā

لَمْ

not

lam

تَسْطِع

you were able

tasṭiʿ

عَّلَيْهِ

on it

ʿalayhi

صَبْرًۭا

(to have) patience

ṣabran

٨٢

En cuanto al muro, era de dos jóvenes huérfanos del pueblo. Debajo de él había un tesoro que les pertenecía. Su padre había sido un hombre piadoso y tu Señor quiso que cuando alcanzaran la madurez encontraran el tesoro, como una misericordia de tu Señor. Yo no lo hice por iniciativa propia. Ésta es la interpretación de aquello sobre lo que no has tenido paciencia”.

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ

And they ask you

سَأَتْلُوا۟

I will recite

مِّنْهُ

about him

ذِكْرًا

a remembrance

dhik'ran

٨٣

Te preguntan [¡Oh, Muhámmad!] acerca de Dhul Qarnain. Diles: “Voy a relataros una parte de su historia”.

شَىْءٍۢ

سَبَبًۭا

Le concedí poder en la Tierra y le facilité los medios [para que siguiera el camino del bien].

So he followed

hasta alcanzar la parte más occidental, donde vio que el Sol se ocultaba en un manantial cálido, y encontró allí un pueblo [que cometía toda clase de injusticias]. Le inspiré: “¡Oh, Dhul Qarnain! Puedes castigarlos o tratarlos con benevolencia”.

حَمِئَةٍۢ

(of) dark mud

وَوَجَدَ

and he found

wawajada

عِندَهَا

near it

ʿindahā

قَوْمًۭا ۗ

a community

qawman

قُلْنَا

We said

qul'nā

يَـٰذَا

O Dhul-qarnain

yādhā

ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ

O Dhul-qarnain

l-qarnayni

إِمَّآ

Either

immā

أَن

[that]

an

تُعَذِّبَ

you punish

tuʿadhiba

وَإِمَّآ

or

wa-immā

أَن

[that]

an

تَتَّخِذَ

you take

tattakhidha

فِيهِمْ

[in] them

fīhim

حُسْنًۭا

(with) goodness

ḥus'nan

٨٦

he will be returned

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّهِۦ

his Lord

rabbihi

فَيُعَذِّبُهُۥ

and He will punish him

fayuʿadhibuhu

عَذَابًۭا

(with) a punishment

ʿadhāban

نُّكْرًۭا

terrible

nuk'ran

٨٧

Dijo: “A quien persista en la opresión le castigaré y luego deberá comparecer ante su Señor, Quien le infligirá un castigo severo.

وَأَمَّا

But as for

wa-ammā

مَنْ

(one) who

man

ءَامَنَ

believes

āmana

وَعَمِلَ

and does

waʿamila

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous (deeds)

ṣāliḥan

فَلَهُۥ

then for him

falahu

جَزَآءً

(is) a reward

jazāan

ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ

good

l-ḥus'nā

وَسَنَقُولُ

And we will speak

wasanaqūlu

لَهُۥ

to him

lahu

مِنْ

from

min

أَمْرِنَا

our command

amrinā

يُسْرًۭا

(with) ease

yus'ran

٨٨

Pero en cambio, a quien crea y obre correctamente se le concederá una hermosa recompensa, y le corresponderé con un trato amable”.

مِّن

against it

دُونِهَا

against it

سِتْرًۭا

any shelter

sit'ran

hasta alcanzar el lugar más oriental, donde vio que el Sol salía sobre un pueblo que no tenía resguardo para protegerse de él.

Tengo conocimiento de que trató a estos como lo había hecho [con el pueblo anterior].

hasta llegar a un valle entre dos montañas, donde encontró un pueblo que apenas comprendía las palabras [de su idioma].

نَجْعَلُ

we make

لَكَ

for you

خَرْجًا

an expenditure

kharjan

عَلَىٰٓ

[on]

ʿalā

أَن

that

an

تَجْعَلَ

you make

tajʿala

بَيْنَنَا

between us

baynanā

وَبَيْنَهُمْ

and between them

wabaynahum

سَدًّۭا

a barrier

saddan

٩٤

Dijeron: “¡Oh, Dhul Qarnain! Gog y Magog siembran la corrupción en la Tierra. ¿Podríamos pedirte que, a cambio de una retribución, levantes una muralla entre ellos y nosotros?”

Les dijo: “Lo que mi Señor me ha concedido es superior [a lo que podáis ofrecerme]. Ayudadme y erigiré una muralla entre vosotros y ellos.

جَعَلَهُۥ

he made it

jaʿalahu

نَارًۭا

fire

nāran

قَالَ

he said

qāla

ءَاتُونِىٓ

Bring me

ātūnī

أُفْرِغْ

I pour

uf'righ

عَلَيْهِ

over it

ʿalayhi

قِطْرًۭا

molten copper

qiṭ'ran

٩٦

Traedme piezas de hierro hasta cubrir el espacio de las dos montañas”. Les dijo: “Encended un fuego y soplad [con fuelles] hasta que esté incandescente”; y agregó: “Luego traedme cobre fundido para derramarlo por encima”.

He will make it

وَعْدُ

(the) Promise

waʿdu

رَبِّى

(of) my Lord

حَقًّۭا

Dijo [Dhul Qarnain]: “Ésta es una misericordia de mi Señor, pero cuando llegue la promesa de mi Señor [el Día del Juicio] la reducirá a polvo. La promesa de mi Señor es verdadera”.

And We (will) leave

wataraknā

بَعْضَهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍahum

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

(on) that Day

يَمُوجُ

to surge

بَعْضٍۢ ۖ

others

baʿḍin

وَنُفِخَ

and (will be) blown

wanufikha

فِى

in

fī

ٱلصُّورِ

the trumpet

l-ṣūri

فَجَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ

then We (will) gather them

fajamaʿnāhum

جَمْعًۭا

all together

jamʿan

٩٩

Ese día dejaré que surjan [Gog y Magog] como oleadas chocando unas con otras [sembrando la corrupción y el exterminio], pero luego será tocada la trompeta y les congregaré a todos.

And We (will) present

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

(on) that Day

لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

عَرْضًا

(on) display

ʿarḍan

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those

alladhīna

كَانَتْ

kānat

أَعْيُنُهُمْ

their eyes

aʿyunuhum

فِى

within

fī

غِطَآءٍ

a cover

ghiṭāin

عَن

from

ʿan

ذِكْرِى

My remembrance

dhik'rī

وَكَانُوا۟

and were

wakānū

لَا

not

lā

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

able

yastaṭīʿūna

سَمْعًا

(to) hear

samʿan

١٠١

Aquellos que tenían sus ojos velados a Mi recuerdo [el Corán] y no soportaban oír [la verdad].

أَفَحَسِبَ

Do then think

afaḥasiba

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

أَن

that

an

يَتَّخِذُوا۟

they (can) take

yattakhidhū

عِبَادِى

My servants

ʿibādī

مِن

besides Me

min

دُونِىٓ

besides Me

dūnī

أَوْلِيَآءَ ۚ

(as) protectors

awliyāa

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

innā

أَعْتَدْنَا

We have prepared

aʿtadnā

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

for the disbelievers

lil'kāfirīna

نُزُلًۭا

(as) a lodging

nuzulan

١٠٢

¿Acaso piensan los que se niegan a creer que si toman a algunos de Mis siervos como protectores en Mi lugar [eso podrá protegerlos del castigo]? Tengo preparado el Infierno como castigo para los que se negaron a creer [en las enseñanzas de los Profetas].

Say

Shall

نُنَبِّئُكُم

We inform you

nunabbi-ukum

بِٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ

of the greatest losers

bil-akhsarīna

أَعْمَـٰلًا

(as to their) deeds

aʿmālan

١٠٣

Diles: “¿Queréis que os haga saber quiénes son los que no obtendrán beneficio alguno por sus obras?”

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those

alladhīna

ضَلَّ

is lost

ḍalla

سَعْيُهُمْ

their effort

saʿyuhum

فِى

in

fī

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَحْسَبُونَ

think

yaḥsabūna

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

يُحْسِنُونَ

(were) acquiring good

yuḥ'sinūna

صُنْعًا

(in) work

ṣun'ʿan

١٠٤

[Son] aquellos que han desperdiciado los esfuerzos que realizaron en este mundo mientras creían obrar el bien.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) the ones who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

in the Verses

biāyāti

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

وَلِقَآئِهِۦ

and the meeting (with) Him

waliqāihi

فَحَبِطَتْ

So (are) vain

faḥabiṭat

أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ

their deeds

aʿmāluhum

فَلَا

so not

falā

نُقِيمُ

We will assign

nuqīmu

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

يَوْمَ

(on) the Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

وَزْنًۭا

any weight

waznan

١٠٥

Son quienes no creen en los signos de su Señor ni que comparecerán ante Él. Sus obras habrán sido en vano y en el Día de la Resurrección no tendrán nada que pese en la balanza.

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

جَزَآؤُهُمْ

(is) their recompense

jazāuhum

جَهَنَّمُ

Hell

jahannamu

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَفَرُوا۟

they disbelieved

kafarū

وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟

and took

wa-ittakhadhū

ءَايَـٰتِى

My Verses

āyātī

وَرُسُلِى

and My Messengers

warusulī

هُزُوًا

(in) ridicule

huzuwan

١٠٦

Recibirán el Infierno como castigo por no haber creído y por haberse burlado de Mis signos y de Mis Mensajeros.

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and did

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

كَانَتْ

for them will be

kānat

لَهُمْ

for them will be

lahum

جَنَّـٰتُ

Gardens

jannātu

ٱلْفِرْدَوْسِ

(of) the Paradise

l-fir'dawsi

نُزُلًا

(as) a lodging

nuzulan

١٠٧

Pero quienes hayan creído y obrado rectamente tendrán como morada los jardines del Paraíso,

Abiding forever

khālidīna

فِيهَا

Not

يَبْغُونَ

they will desire

yabghūna

عَنْهَا

from it

ʿanhā

حِوَلًۭا

any transfer

donde vivirán por toda la eternidad y no desearán mudarse jamás.

ٱلْبَحْرُ

the sea

مِدَادًۭا

لِّكَلِمَـٰتِ

for (the) Words

رَبِّى

(of) my Lord

rabbī

لَنَفِدَ

surely (would be) exhausted

lanafida

ٱلْبَحْرُ

the sea

l-baḥru

قَبْلَ

before

qabla

أَن

[that]

an

تَنفَدَ

(were) exhausted

tanfada

كَلِمَـٰتُ

(the) Words

kalimātu

رَبِّى

(of) my Lord

rabbī

وَلَوْ

even if

walaw

جِئْنَا

We brought

ji'nā

بِمِثْلِهِۦ

(the) like (of) it

bimith'lihi

مَدَدًۭا

(as) a supplement

madadan

١٠٩

Diles: “Si los mares fueran tinta para escribir las Palabras de mi Señor, se agotaría el agua de los mares antes de que se agotaran las Palabras de mi Señor, aunque se trajeran otros mares de tinta [equivalentes a los que existen]”.

Say

إِنَّمَآ

Only

innamā

أَنَا۠

I

anā

بَشَرٌۭ

(am) a man

basharun

مِّثْلُكُمْ

like you

mith'lukum

يُوحَىٰٓ

Has been revealed

yūḥā

إِلَىَّ

to me

ilayya

أَنَّمَآ

that

annamā

إِلَـٰهُكُمْ

your God

ilāhukum

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

(is) God

ilāhun

وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖ

One

wāḥidun

فَمَن

So whoever

faman

كَانَ

is

kāna

يَرْجُوا۟

hoping

yarjū

لِقَآءَ

(for the) meeting

liqāa

رَبِّهِۦ

(with) his Lord

rabbihi

فَلْيَعْمَلْ

let him do

falyaʿmal

عَمَلًۭا

deeds

ʿamalan

صَـٰلِحًۭا

righteous

ṣāliḥan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يُشْرِكْ

associate

yush'rik

بِعِبَادَةِ

in (the) worship

biʿibādati

رَبِّهِۦٓ

(of) his Lord

rabbihi

أَحَدًۢا

anyone

aḥadan

١١٠

Diles: “Yo no soy más que un hombre a quien se le ha revelado que solo debéis adorar a Dios, vuestra única divinidad. Quien anhele encontrarse con su Señor [y que Él esté complacido], que realice obras piadosas y que no adore a nadie más que a Él”.
