Nay

أُقْسِمُ

I swear

بِيَوْمِ

by (the) Day

biyawmi

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

Juro por el Día de la Resurrección,

And nay

أُقْسِمُ

I swear

بِٱلنَّفْسِ

by the soul

bil-nafsi

ٱللَّوَّامَةِ

self-accusing

y juro por el alma que se reprocha a sí misma [cuando comete una falta].

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

We will assemble

¿Acaso cree el ser humano que no volveré a reunir sus huesos?

قَـٰدِرِينَ

(We are) Able

أَن

نُّسَوِّىَ

We can restore

Desires

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

لِيَفْجُرَ

to give (the) lie

أَمَامَهُۥ

(to) what is before him

Pero el ser humano [reniega del Día de la Resurrección y] quiere obrar como un libertino lo que le queda de vida.

He asks

When

يَوْمُ

(is the) Day

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

Y pregunta [burlonamente]: “¿Cuándo será el día de la Resurrección?”

فَإِذَا

So when

fa-idhā

بَرِقَ

is dazzled

bariqa

ٱلْبَصَرُ

the vision

Pero cuando [llegue ese día y] la vista quede aturdida,

And becomes dark

ٱلْقَمَرُ

the moon

٨

se eclipse la Luna,

وَجُمِعَ

And are joined

ٱلشَّمْسُ

the sun

l-shamsu

وَٱلْقَمَرُ

and the moon

wal-qamaru

Will say

yaqūlu

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

يَوْمَئِذٍ

(is) the place of rest

Ese día, todos comparecerán ante tu Señor.

Will be informed

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

يَوْمَئِذٍۭ

وَأَخَّرَ

and kept back

wa-akhara

Ese día se le informará al ser humano todo cuanto hizo y dejó de hacer.

Nay

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

[The] man

عَلَىٰ

against

ʿalā

نَفْسِهِۦ

nafsihi

بَصِيرَةٌۭ

(will be) a witness

El ser humano dará testimonio contra sí mismo.

Even if

أَلْقَىٰ

he presents

مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ

his excuses

maʿādhīrahu

١٥

Y aunque intente justificarse [no podrá hacerlo].

Not

lā

تُحَرِّكْ

move

tuḥarrik

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

لِسَانَكَ

your tongue

lisānaka

لِتَعْجَلَ

to hasten

litaʿjala

بِهِۦٓ

[¡Oh, Muhámmad!] No muevas tu lengua deprisa repitiendo [la revelación],

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

عَلَيْنَا

upon Us

ʿalaynā

جَمْعَهُۥ

(is) its collection

jamʿahu

وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ

and its recitation

waqur'ānahu

١٧

porque a Mí me corresponde conservarla [en tu corazón libre de toda tergiversación] para que la recites.

فَإِذَا

And when

fa-idhā

قَرَأْنَـٰهُ

We have recited it

qaranāhu

فَٱتَّبِعْ

then follow

fa-ittabiʿ

قُرْءَانَهُۥ

its recitation

Y cuando te la transmita sigue atentamente la recitación.

upon Us

بَيَانَهُۥ

تُحِبُّونَ

you love

tuḥibbūna

ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ

the immediate

l-ʿājilata

٢٠

Pero [los seres humanos] amáis la vida pasajera

وَتَذَرُونَ

And leave

watadharūna

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirata

٢١

y descuidáis la vida del más allá.

وُجُوهٌۭ

Faces

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that Day

yawma-idhin

نَّاضِرَةٌ

(will be) radiant

nāḍiratun

٢٢

Ese día, habrá rostros resplandecientes [de felicidad]

Towards

ilā

رَبِّهَا

their Lord

rabbihā

نَاظِرَةٌۭ

looking

nāẓiratun

contemplando a su Señor.

And faces

يَوْمَئِذٍۭ

that Day

yawma-idhin

بَاسِرَةٌۭ

(will be) distorted

Pero otros rostros estarán ensombrecidos,

تَظُنُّ

Thinking

taẓunnu

أَن

that

an

يُفْعَلَ

will be done

yuf'ʿala

بِهَا

to them

bihā

فَاقِرَةٌۭ

backbreaking

fāqiratun

al conocer la calamidad que caerá sobre ellos.

No

kallā

إِذَا

When

idhā

بَلَغَتِ

it reaches

balaghati

ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ

the collar bones

٢٦

Cuando el alma llegue a la garganta [en la agonía de la muerte],

وَقِيلَ

And it is said

waqīla

مَنْ ۜ

Who

man

رَاقٍۢ

(will) cure

y digan [quienes están junto al agonizante]: “¿Hay alguien que pueda curarle?”

وَظَنَّ

And he is certain

waẓanna

أَنَّهُ

that it

annahu

ٱلْفِرَاقُ

(is) the parting

l-firāqu

٢٨

El agonizante sabrá que llega el momento de partir [de este mundo],

وَٱلْتَفَّتِ

And is wound

wal-tafati

ٱلسَّاقُ

the leg

l-sāqu

بِٱلسَّاقِ

about the leg

bil-sāqi

y que sus piernas rígidas ya no podrán levantarlo de la agonía de la muerte.

To

ilā

رَبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

يَوْمَئِذٍ

that Day

yawma-idhin

ٱلْمَسَاقُ

(will be) the driving

l-masāqu

Ese día será conducido hacia su Señor.

فَلَا

And not

falā

صَدَّقَ

he accepted (the) truth

ṣaddaqa

وَلَا

and not

walā

صَلَّىٰ

he prayed

ṣallā

Quien no haya aceptado el Mensaje ni haya cumplido con las oraciones,

وَلَـٰكِن

But

walākin

كَذَّبَ

he denied

kadhaba

وَتَوَلَّىٰ

and turned away

sino que desmentía [la verdad] y le daba la espalda

Then

ذَهَبَ

he went

dhahaba

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَهْلِهِۦ

his family

ahlihi

يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ

swaggering

yatamaṭṭā

y luego iba a los suyos arrogante,

Woe

awlā

لَكَ

to you

laka

فَأَوْلَىٰ

and woe

fa-awlā

٣٤

لَكَ

فَأَوْلَىٰٓ

Does think

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ

يُتْرَكَ

he will be left

سُدًى

neglected

¿Acaso cree el ser humano que no será responsable de sus actos?

Was not

نُطْفَةًۭ

a semen-drop

مِّن

مَّنِىٍّۢ

يُمْنَىٰ

¿Acaso no fue un óvulo fecundado por una gota de esperma eyaculada?

كَانَ

عَلَقَةًۭ

a clinging substance

فَخَلَقَ

then He created

fakhalaqa

فَسَوَّىٰ

and proportioned

¿Y luego un embrión? Dios lo creó y le dio forma armoniosa.

فَجَعَلَ

Then made

fajaʿala

مِنْهُ

of him

min'hu

ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ

two kinds

l-zawjayni

ٱلذَّكَرَ

(the) male

l-dhakara

وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ

and the female

wal-unthā

٣٩

Y creó de allí la pareja: el hombre y la mujer.

أَلَيْسَ

Is not

alaysa

ذَٰلِكَ

[that]

dhālika

بِقَـٰدِرٍ

(He) Able

biqādirin

عَلَىٰٓ

[over]

ʿalā

أَن

an

يُحْـِۧىَ

give life

yuḥ'yiya

ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

(to) the dead

l-mawtā

٤٠

Quien ha hecho todo esto, ¿acaso no va a ser capaz de resucitar a los muertos?
