إِذْ When idh you (were) antum on side of the valley bil-ʿud'wati the nearer l-dun'yā and they wahum (were) on the side bil-ʿud'wati the farther l-quṣ'wā and the caravan wal-rakbu (was) lower asfala than you minkum And if walaw you (had) made an appointment tawāʿadttum certainly you would have failed la-ikh'talaftum in fī the appointment l-mīʿādi But walākin that might accomplish liyaqḍiya Allah l-lahu a matter amran (that) was kāna destined mafʿūlan that (might be) destroyed liyahlika (those) who man (were to be) destroyed halaka on ʿan a clear evidence bayyinatin and (might) live wayaḥyā (those) who man (were to) live ḥayya on ʿan a clear evidence bayyinatin And indeed wa-inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Hearing lasamīʿun All-Knowing ʿalīmun
[Recuerda] cuando os encontrabais en el valle más cercano [a Medina] y el ejército de los idólatras en el más lejano, y la caravana de camellos más abajo [en dirección al mar]. Y si hubierais sabido que se habría de producir una batalla, os habríais negado a aceptar el desafío. Pero [la batalla fue provocada aun así] para que Dios llevara a cabo algo [que Él había dispuesto] que ocurriera, y para que quien hubiera de perecer [en ese día], pereciera ante una prueba clara de la verdad; y quien hubiera de sobrevivir, sobreviviera ante una prueba clara de la verdad. Dios todo lo oye, todo lo sabe.
