يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā who alladhīna believe[d] āmanū (Do) not lā render in vain tub'ṭilū your charities ṣadaqātikum with reminders (of it) bil-mani or [the] hurt wal-adhā like the one who ka-alladhī spends yunfiqu his wealth mālahu (to) be seen riāa (by) the people l-nāsi and (does) not walā believe yu'minu in Allah bil-lahi and the Day wal-yawmi [the] Last l-ākhiri Then his example famathaluhu (is) like kamathali (that of a) smooth rock ṣafwānin upon it ʿalayhi (is) dust turābun then fell on it fa-aṣābahu heavy rain wābilun then left it fatarakahu bare ṣaldan Not lā they have control yaqdirūna on ʿalā anything shayin of what mimmā they (have) earned kasabū And Allah wal-lahu (does) not lā guide yahdī the people l-qawma [the] disbelieving l-kāfirīna
¡Oh, creyentes! No malogréis vuestras caridades haciendo alarde de ellas u ofendiendo, como aquel que contribuye para que la gente lo vea, pero [en realidad] no cree en Dios ni en el Día del Juicio Final. Su ejemplo es como el de una roca cubierta de tierra, a la cual le cae un aguacero que la deja al descubierto. Esas personas no obtendrán recompensa alguna por sus [buenas] obras, porque Dios no guía a la gente que se niega a reconocer la verdad.
