لَآ Nay lā I swear uq'simu by this bihādhā city l-baladi
Juro por esta ciudad [La Meca],
وَأَنتَ And you wa-anta (are) free (to dwell) ḥillun in this bihādhā city l-baladi
en la que tú resides [¡Oh, Muhámmad!],
وَوَالِدٍۢ And the begetter wawālidin and what wamā he begot walada
y juro por el progenitor y su descendencia,
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad We have created khalaqnā man l-insāna (to be) in fī hardship kabadin
que creé al ser humano para una vida de continuas dificultades.
أَيَحْسَبُ Does he think ayaḥsabu that an not lan has power yaqdira over him ʿalayhi anyone aḥadun
¿Acaso piensa que nadie tiene poder sobre él?
يَقُولُ He will say yaqūlu I have squandered ahlaktu wealth mālan abundant lubadan
Presume diciendo: “He derrochado una gran fortuna”.
أَيَحْسَبُ Does he think ayaḥsabu that an not lam sees him yarahu anyone aḥadun
¿Acaso cree que nadie le ve?
أَلَمْ Have not alam We made najʿal for him lahu two eyes ʿaynayni
¿Acaso no le he dado dos ojos,
وَلِسَانًۭا And a tongue walisānan and two lips washafatayni
una lengua y dos labios,
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ And shown him wahadaynāhu the two ways l-najdayni
y le he mostrado los dos senderos [el del bien y el del mal]?
