مِّنَ Of mina those who alladhīna are Jews hādū they distort yuḥarrifūna the words l-kalima from ʿan their places mawāḍiʿihi and they say wayaqūlūna We hear[d] samiʿ'nā and we disobey[ed] waʿaṣaynā and "Hear wa-is'maʿ not ghayra to be heard mus'maʿin and "Raina warāʿinā twisting layyan [with] their tongues bi-alsinatihim and defaming waṭaʿnan [in] fī the religion l-dīni And if walaw [that] they annahum (had) said qālū We hear[d] samiʿ'nā and we obey[ed] wa-aṭaʿnā and "Hear wa-is'maʿ and look (at) us wa-unẓur'nā surely it (would) have been lakāna better khayran for them lahum and more suitable wa-aqwama [And] but walākin cursed them laʿanahumu Allah l-lahu for their disbelief bikuf'rihim so not falā they believe yu'minūna except illā a few qalīlan
Algunos judíos tergiversan el sentido de las palabras sacándolas de contexto, como cuando dicen: “Te oímos [y al mismo tiempo les dicen a otros], pero no te seguiremos en nada de lo que digas”. [O como cuando dicen:] “Óyenos tú, que no aceptamos oírte”. Te llaman con doble sentido en sus palabras ofendiendo la religión [de Dios]. Si hubieran dicho: “Te oímos y te seguiremos. Escúchanos y sé paciente con nosotros”, sería mejor para ellos y más correcto. Pero Dios los alejó de Su misericordia por negarse a aceptar la verdad, poco es lo que creen.
